Malignant Hyperthermia: Clinical Management

نویسندگان

چکیده

Malignant hyperthermia is a subclinical myopathy in which general anesthesia triggers an uncontrollable contraction of skeletal muscle that leads to life-threatening hypercatabolic state and increase body temperature. The disease primarily autosomal dominant; mutations receptors (especially ryanodine receptor type 1) predispose volatile anesthetic agents or succinylcholine causing accumulation intracellular calcium its overactivation hypermetabolism. In the acute setting, diagnosis based mainly on clinical presentation end-tidal capnography, reveals CO2. Initial treatment measures include discontinuation agent reaction administration dantrolene. non-acute settings, there are specific diagnostic tools such as caffeine-halothane contracture test confirm suspected cases. MH lethal has high mortality rate if not treated early.

Dantrolene sodium and management of malignant hyperthermia.

Malignant hyperthermia (MH) is an inherited muscle disorder suffered by patients who undergo a stressful situation or acute trauma or who have been given certain anesthetic agents. 1,2 MH has been called the most common cause of anesthesiarelated death in North America, contributing a large percentage of the 15,000 to 20,000 of such deaths recorded annually.3 The 53% mortality rate of today com...

Management of malignant hyperthermia: diagnosis and treatment

Malignant hyperthermia is a potentially lethal inherited disorder characterized by disturbance of calcium homeostasis in skeletal muscle. Volatile anesthetics and/or the depolarizing muscle relaxant succinylcholine may induce this hypermetabolic muscular syndrome due to uncontrolled sarcoplasmic calcium release via functionally altered calcium release receptors, resulting in hypoxemia, hypercap...

CONTENT Malignant hyperthermia (MH) is a potentially lethal pharmacogenetic disorder that affects genetically predisposed individuals. It manifests in susceptible individuals in response to exposure to Inhalant anesthetics, depolarizing muscle relaxants or extreme physical activity in hot environments. During exposure to these triggering agents, there is a rapid and sustained increase of myopla...

Malignant hyperthermia following rhinoplasty: a case report

Malignant hyperthermia is a rare and fatal disorder. A 16-year-old male patient was a candidate for rhinoplasty surgery with no history of disease and previous surgery, negative family history and no history of medication use in the operating room. Maintenance of anesthesia was performed with O2, NO2 (50% -50%) and MAC isoflurane 1. Gradually, from the 80th minute after the start of the operati...
